Have you ever wondered what it would be like student-teaching at a school? We interviewed Mr. Bastian to find out.

Mr. Bastian is currently student-teaching for Mrs. Liepe, our social studies teacher. He grew up in North Jersey but ended up going to Stockton University for college.

Why did you want to teach?

He said that he was inspired by a teacher in 3rd and 4th grade to teach. He ended up choosing social studies as it was the only subject he wasn’t failing. Fortunately for Mr. Bastian, he slowly fell in with the subject and is fond of it. His biggest accomplishment was learning everyone’s name in the first two weeks of school. However, he says that he needs more of a variety of questions to ask.

What have you learned from teaching at Attales?

Mr. Bastian said that eighth graders are a lot smarter than they think and need to have a sense of humor to be a middle school teacher.
Mr. Bastian originally thought teaching would be easier, but he learned to change the teaching style of every class.

Does teaching make you happy?

“Yes, I love teaching and coming in to see everyone everyday,” Mr. Bastian said. He added that he will miss the students at Attales when he’s done teaching here.

And the only question that actually matters, who would win in a fight against you and Mr. C?

Mr. Bastian said that while he and Mr. C would never fight, Mr. Bastian would beat him in any other race or competition.
