Lex’s Theses: grievances and suggestion for Attales Middle School

In 1517, a man named Martin Luther wrote 95 Theses, or problems, that he had with the church. I took inspiration from him and decided to write about my issues with my school, as well as offering suggestions.

First, CAP at the end of the day is much more beneficial than having it at the beginning of the day, as we do now. Having it at the beginning of the day promotes procrastination. Having it after lunch would allow students to do their homework while also not having to worry about whether or not they can manage to get it done before their classes. It would help to teach kids that they cannot wait until the moment beforehand to rely on a 50-minute period to get their work done.

Another rule I’d like to see changed is the ban on backpacks. I have been late to class several times due to the ban on backpacks. The way that the schedule is set up only gives us three minutes between classes in order to leave our last class, get to our lockers and get our stuff, and then go to our next class. However, it all happens at once and the students often don’t have enough time to go to their locker in between classes.

I feel backpacks do not have a reason for being banned since we still have them in our last class of the day which proves that they do not cause a distraction. I believe backpacks also worked out fine when we had them last year.

Attales should reinstitute backpacks immediately. I think that it would be very beneficial to allow backpacks since they would let kids get to their classes sooner and it would be easy to just allow them.

Although CAP may not be able to be changed until next year, it is still a change that I think would help.
