Llama Day celebrates usefulness of llamas throughout history

National Llama Day might sound like a joke or something made up, but it’s real. National Llama Day is on Dec. 9 and is celebrated by honoring a furry, four-legged creature named llamas.

Why do we celebrate Llama Day
The reason we celebrate Llama Day is to honor llamas for what they do. But there is another reason why we honor Llamas-not just because they’re cute and adorable. Llamas are a big help to people in South America and other places in the world as well.

The history of Llamas
More than 5,000 years ago people used Llamas for their wool and meat. Or sometimes even a friend. These were the only uses for llamas until 1932 when the first Llama Day was celebrated. When in Manitoba, Canada there was a drought, many of the livestock died, especially sheep. The only animals who lived were llamas. People saw how useful llama were and made a holiday day about llamas.
